A Chicago screw, also known as a binder post or screw post, is a type of fastener that consists of two mating parts: a male screw and a female barrel or post. The male screw has a threaded shaft with a head at one end and a pointed tip at the other. The female post has a hollow bore with a flared end that allows the male screw to be inserted and securely tightened into place. Two-Piece Design

  • Male Threaded Post: This part looks like a screw or a bolt with a head (flat, round, or countersunk).
  • Female Threaded Barrel: This part is a cylindrical sleeve with internal threads and its own head. The male post screws directly into this barrel.

Internal Drive Types

The heads are almost always designed to be tightened from the inside, meaning the drive mechanism is on the underside of the head. This is a key security and aesthetic feature.
