Self Tapping Screw Manufacturing

A self-tapping screw is a type of fastener that creates its own mating threads in a material as it's driven in, either by cutting the material or forming the threads through deformation. They are commonly used in sheet metal, plastics, and other light-gauge materials to fasten them together without needing a nut on the opposite side. The thread type of self tapping screw include  Type A, Type AB, Type B, High-low and Type U.

Choosing the Right Thread Type for Self-tapping Screw

The best self-tapping screw thread depends on the specific material you are fastening and the thickness of that material. Type A screws have a coarse thread and gimlet point for wood or thin metal, Type AB screws have a finer thread for brittle materials like thinner sheet metal, Type B screws have a blunt point suitable for plastics or thicker sheet metal. High-Low self tapping screw for soft plastics and wood. And Type U (U Drive) for general-purpose applications.

King Tower supply a wide range of self tapping screws for plastic, UPVC, wood and other materials. Wide choice of configurations and finishes, suitable for a variety of applications. Custom sizes to order is available and we also manufacture special products to customer drawings.

King Tower Hadrware FAQ

Selecting the right screw depends on several factors:

  • Material: What are you fastening? (Metal, wood or plastic)
  • Environment: Will it be exposed to moisture, chemicals, or extreme temperatures? (This affects material and coating choice)
  • Load Requirements: What kind of stress will the joint be under? (Torque, tensile, vibration)

  • 8.8 / 12.9 / A2-70

These markings indicate the grade or property class of the fastener, which defines its strength (e.g., tensile and yield strength). For instance, on metric bolts, the number "8.8" or "12.9" is common. On SAE bolts, you'll see radial lines or numbers like "Grade 5" or "Grade 8". For Stainless Steel 304 material, you can see "A2-70" on the screw head. King Tower also can offer custom made marking on the screw head, please don't hesitate to send your demand to us.

We can package fasteners in bulk boxes, custom-labeled poly bags, or even on spools/reels for high-volume automated applications. Please specify your packaging needs when requesting a quote.
